ResearchersLane, Daniel (Principal Investigator)Dr. Dan Lane has been Full Professor at the School of Management since 1995. He is currently Management Section Head at the School of Management and member of the coordinating committee of the University of Ottawa’s Institute on the Environment. His research work focuses on decision-making processes, simulation modelling and control of dynamic systems, especially in the area of natural resource management. As a member of the Fisheries Resource Conservation Council (FRCC) from 1998 to 2003, he was Chair of the Scotia-Fundy and the Gulf of St. Lawrence Ecosystem teams. He is also a member of the Fish and Sea Products Sectoral Advisory Group on International Trade (SAGIT). He has published on management applications in decision analysis, stochastic modelling and strategic planning in fisheries and has prepared major reports for the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) on quota management systems, and for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Fisheries Committee on the evolution of fisheries management performance. Dr. Lane has collaborated extensively with research team member Dr. Rob Stephenson in integrating aspects of Management Science with fisheries science and management. He has also worked closely with research team member Dr. Wojtek Michalowski on graduate team teaching and in research on fisheries and health care projects. As Principal Investigator, Dr. Lane will provide overall direction and management to the research project and its human and financial resources. He will be responsible for the direct supervision of graduate students at the University of Ottawa committed to the project. He will also be responsible for the coordinating the development and application of the GIS, and decision modelling methodologies to the research team. Finally, he will manage and plan, in conjunction with the co-investigators, the regular review workshops with research participants.
