Project Milestones:

Year 1 milestones:  ( April 1, 2004 – March 31, 2005 )

• May 2004 – Completion of the prototype model framework for Grand Manan Island for review and discussion among research collaborators;
  
• May 2004 – Presentation of framework and concepts of the research project to the World Fisheries Congress in Vancouver; preparation of working papers and conference proceedings documents for publication;
  
• June 2004 – Review meeting and planned first workshop for scientific team, industry and government collaborators to review progress on current work, objectives, project workplan, and these milestones; prepare meeting proceedings (to be followed by quarterly review meetings: July, October, January, April, for the duration of the project – each with published proceedings);
  
• October 2004 – Progress report to the quarterly workshop meeting of the research team and collaborators on testing and validation of aspects and key interactions of the model for the cases of: (1) Duck Island Sound; (2) evaluation of selected sites around Grand Manan Island including all fish farms, and other selected areas not in the vicinity of fish farms to serve as benchmark areas for evaluation; (3) collection of data from stakeholders on their perceptions about environmental components for each of the cases;
  
• July 2004 – Progress report at the quarterly workshop meeting of the research team and collaborators; review and preparation for case studies applications;
  
• July-December 2004 – Ongoing collection of additional environmental, and stakeholders’ data
  
• January 2005 – Progress report on preparation of extended model components and data for operational testing in Province of New Brunswick and Department of Fisheries and Oceans requests for evaluation of sites;
  
• March 2005 – Modification of model components to include other relevant and available data; continued testing and validation of results for extended applications and requests to the Province of New Brunswick and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canada.
  

Year 2 milestones: ( April 1, 2005 – March 31,2006 )

• April 2005 – Progress report on applications to the quarterly workshop meeting of the research team and collaborators; integration of the decision support model for actual requests in the Bay of Fundy in conjunction with the ongoing demands to the province and DFO;
  
• July 2005 – Progress report on case study applications to the quarterly workshop meeting of the research team and collaborators; feedback on monitoring and tracking of results and applications of the decision support model to date;
  
• October 2005 – Progress report on case study applications to the quarterly workshop meeting of the research team and collaborators; feedback on monitoring and tracking of results and applications to date;
  
• January 2006 – Progress report on case study applications to the quarterly workshop meeting of the research team and collaborators; feedback on monitoring and tracking of results and applications to date; preparation of journal publications including evidence and experience from applications and use of the decision support system to date;
  
• March 2006 – Workshop for scientific team, industry and government collaborators to critique model performance and to discuss extensions for future work and applications; publish recommendations.
